With the emergence of Cambodia as a tourist destination after decades of cruelty and tourism operators are promoting the country’s tourist destinations.
While most people go to Cambodia to visit the Angkor Temples in Siem Reap there are places to hide off the beaten tourist route to find a young traveller. In Cambodia, this includes the route from Siem Reap – to Phnom Penh – to Sihanoukville to explore the most sparsely populated areas in Cambodia.
What space in the world offers is not classics like an adrenaline-pumping junkie for a real adventure. They are exciting travel activities that the whole family can enjoy. These activities can include cycling, mountaineering, or hiking.
Angkor Wat tours can be extended by cycling throughout the Angkor Archaeological Park, this has provided many exploration options away from the popular tourist attractions of Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom. There is an opportunity to visit some of the amazing temples surrounded by the surrounding forest.
Climbing the Mekong River from Phnom Penh takes the traveller to the less populated areas of Cambodia that are not yet fully developed in a commercial sense. This is the true heart of Cambodia where although the people may be the poorest in the country because of their friendship they can put up with the very rich. It is possible to navigate the tracks and roads along the river north from village to village. The famous bicycle trail for a 30-mile trek from Kratie up to Campi to visit the rare Irrawaddy dolphins.
Northwest of the Mekong River are the Rattanakari and Mondulkiri provinces, the Banlung Rattanakari area has a growing reputation as a hiking trail around crater lakes and numerous waterfalls around the region. Waterfalls can be seen flowing all year round. The area also has a National Park to the north and Kumphat Wildlife Sanctuary south of Banlung.
Travelling from the Rattanakiri jungle to the highlands of Mondulkiri offers the visitor a solid sense of self-sacrifice. Options include a three-day elephant trek although the hillsides are dense jungle, a visit to the tribal valleys, and capturing spectacular waterfalls. Bou Sraa Waterfall is very popular in Cambodia.
Moving to the South of the country along the coast improves the next voyage. Apart from the safest swimming beaches, there are a few PADI accredited centers based in Sihanoukville. They can cater for any surfing adventure from snorkelling trips to scuba diving for beginners to more experienced divers. There are islands in the Gulf of Thailand with coral reefs that support many species of marine animals that will satisfy the desire of all visitors.
